An armed suspect attempted to attack an armored car guard who was servicing an ATM in the parking lot of a Guilford County Food Lion; however, the suspect was shot by the guard while an accomplice fled in a getaway vehicle. The suspect died at the scene and was later identified as Devonte Scott who was awaiting trial following an arrest in June for planning to rob an armored vehicle.
Two 17-year-olds have been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and organized crime. Authorities believe that they were involved in a December 20, 2024, attack on an armored truck outside of a grocery store. Officials with FBI Houston dubbed the suspects in that attack the ‘Scrooge Sprayers’ because they sprayed the truck courier in the face with an unknown substance to debilitate him during the attack. Both suspects are also connected to a January 23 bank heist in West Houston which led to their arrests.
A suspect armed with a rifle and wearing a ski mask and military-style fatigues held a Brinks driver at gunpoint outside of a Chase Bank branch and stole an undisclosed sum of cash before fleeing the scene.
The robbery was captured on the guard’s body-worn camera which shows three masked suspects armed with assault-style rifles ambush the guard during service of a bank ATM. The suspects pulled cash cassettes from the open ATM before fleeing the scene.
